How to Connect Google Meet to SmoothHiring
Connect Google Calendar and Google Meet so SmoothHiring can attach Meet links to interview events.
Adding the App

Google Meet links are created through your Google Calendar connection.
Prerequisites
- A SmoothHiring employer account with access to Settings → Account → Connected Apps
- A Google account with Google Calendar (Google Workspace or a personal Google account)
- Permission to authorize third-party apps on that Google account
Add the app from SmoothHiring
- Go to Settings → Account → Connected Apps.
- Connect Google Calendar first (required for Meet).
- Find Google Meet under the Google section.
- Click Connect and sign in to Google if prompted.
- Review the requested permissions and click Allow.
- You are returned to SmoothHiring. Google Meet shows as Connected.
SmoothHiring never stores your Google password. After you authorize, only OAuth tokens for your account are stored so SmoothHiring can create calendar events and Meet links.
If adding the app fails, see Troubleshooting.
Usage
Use Google Meet when you schedule video interviews.
Prerequisites
- Google Calendar is connected
- Google Meet shows as connected
- You are scheduling a Video interview
Schedule a Google Meet interview
- Open the candidate's Applicant Profile.
- Click Schedule Interview.
- Select Video as the interview type and Google Meet as the meeting type.
- Set the date, time, duration, attendees, and notes.
- Click Schedule.
SmoothHiring then:
- Creates a Google Calendar event
- Attaches a Google Meet link to the event
- Includes the Meet link in the candidate invitation
- Lets interviewers and candidates join from the calendar invite or the email
Google Meet features
- Automatic link generation — A Meet link is added when the interview is scheduled
- Calendar sync — The event and Meet link appear on the connected Google Calendar
- Candidate notifications — Candidates receive the Meet link in the interview invitation email
- Meeting management — Reschedule or cancel in SmoothHiring to update or remove the calendar event
If Google Meet is not connected
Connect Google Calendar and Google Meet, then reschedule the interview, or add a meeting link manually.
Removing the App
Remove Google Meet from SmoothHiring, from your Google account, or both.
Remove from SmoothHiring
- Go to Settings → Account → Connected Apps.
- Find Google Meet under the Google section.
- Click Disconnect and confirm.
Google Meet uses the same Google Calendar connection. Disconnecting Google Meet also disconnects Google Calendar. Existing interview records stay in SmoothHiring.
Remove from a Google account
- Sign in to your Google account and open Google Account → Security → Third-party access.
- Find SmoothHiring.
- Select it and click Remove access (or Delete all connections).
Implications of removal
- SmoothHiring will no longer create Google Calendar events or Meet links
- Google Meet will no longer appear as a meeting type until you connect again
- Existing Meet links for interviews already scheduled stay valid until those meetings end or you delete the events in Google Calendar
- Cancelling an interview in SmoothHiring only removes the calendar event if Google Calendar is still connected
How user data is handled after removal
- SmoothHiring clears the stored Google Calendar connection for that user
- SmoothHiring stops creating or updating Google Calendar events and Meet links on that user's behalf
- Interview records, notes, and invitation history remain in SmoothHiring
- Meeting details already saved on a scheduled interview remain so attendees can still join
- You can connect Google Calendar and Google Meet again at any time from Connected Apps
Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to do |
|---|---|
| Connect fails or you return with an error | Sign out of Google in the browser, then connect Google Calendar and Google Meet again |
| Google Meet is not connected after Calendar | Connect Google Meet on Connected Apps after Calendar is connected |
| Interview saved without a Meet link | Confirm both Calendar and Meet are connected, then reschedule |
| Authorization expired | Disconnect and connect Google Calendar again |
| Cannot remove access | Remove SmoothHiring from Google third-party access, then disconnect in Connected Apps |
Calendar sync details are in Email & Calendar Integration.
