Post Jobs to Social Media
Post Jobs to Social Media
SmoothHiring makes it easy to share your job postings on social media platforms, extending your reach beyond traditional job boards to tap into your professional networks and online communities. This guide covers how to share jobs on social media, invite applicants directly, and maximize engagement.
Why Share Jobs on Social Media?
Social media job sharing offers several unique advantages over traditional job board distribution:
- Reach passive candidates — Many qualified professionals aren't actively searching job boards but do browse social media regularly
- Leverage your network — Your employees, partners, and followers can amplify your posting by sharing it with their connections
- Employer branding — Social media posts showcase your company culture and attract candidates who resonate with your brand
- Free amplification — Organic social sharing costs nothing and can reach thousands of people through shares and engagement
- Speed — Social media posts are immediate — your network sees the opening within seconds
Sharing a Job on Social Media
To share a job posting on social media:
- Go to Jobs in the left sidebar
- Find the active job you want to share
- Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the job row
- Select Share this job
- The Post to Social Media & Invite Applicants dialog opens
Available Platforms
The sharing dialog provides one-click sharing to three major social media platforms:
| Platform | Icon | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Blue circular LinkedIn icon | Opens a new LinkedIn tab with a pre-formatted post including job title, company, experience, location, full job description, and an "Apply now" link | |
| X (Twitter) | Black X icon | Opens a new X tab with a concise post including key job details and the application link (character-optimized for the platform) |
| Blue Facebook icon | Opens the Facebook sharing dialog with the application link and a pre-formatted job summary quote |
Simply click the platform icon and a new browser tab opens with the social media site's sharing interface, pre-populated with your job information.
What Gets Shared
SmoothHiring automatically formats the sharing content for each platform:
LinkedIn Post includes:
- "We are hiring!!" header
- Job Title
- Company name
- Experience level
- Location (city)
- Full job description (converted from HTML to readable text)
- "Apply now:" link to your job's application page
X (Twitter) Post includes:
- "We are hiring!!" header
- Job Title
- Company name
- Experience level
- Location
- "Apply now:" link (character-optimized)
Facebook Post includes:
- The job application URL as the shared link
- A quote with job summary information including title, company, experience, and location
- Full job description context
Inviting Applicants via Email
In addition to social media sharing, the same dialog lets you invite specific candidates to apply:
- In the Post to Social Media & Invite Applicants dialog, click the email/invite icon (envelope with person)
- The Invite Applicants panel opens
- Enter email addresses of people you'd like to invite to apply
- Personalize the invitation message if desired
- Send the invitations
Invited candidates receive a direct link to your job's application page, making it easy for them to apply immediately.
You can also access the Invite Applicants feature directly from the job actions menu by selecting Invite applicants.
Best Practices for Social Media Job Sharing
LinkedIn is the most effective platform for professional job sharing. To maximize engagement:
- Share from your company page as well as personal profiles for wider reach
- Ask employees to reshare — Each reshare exposes the job to an entirely new network
- Add a personal comment when sharing — Posts with commentary receive 2–3x more engagement than link-only posts
- Tag relevant people or groups who might know qualified candidates
- Post during business hours (Tuesday through Thursday, 8am–10am) for maximum visibility
- Use relevant hashtags like #hiring, #jobopening, #[YourIndustry]jobs
X (Twitter)
X is ideal for quick, broad reach:
- Use relevant hashtags — #Hiring, #JobOpening, #NowHiring, #[City]Jobs
- Tag relevant industry accounts or local community accounts
- Repost at different times throughout the day to catch different time zones
- Pin the hiring tweet to your profile for ongoing visibility
- Engage with replies — Respond to questions about the role promptly
Facebook reaches a broad consumer audience and works well for local hiring:
- Share in relevant Facebook Groups — Local community groups, industry groups, and alumni groups
- Use Facebook's job post format if available on your company page
- Encourage employees to share on their personal timelines
- Add visual content — Posts with images or video get significantly more engagement
- Target local groups for positions requiring on-site presence
Social Sharing After Job Posting
After successfully posting a job and completing payment, SmoothHiring may present the social sharing dialog automatically, allowing you to immediately promote your new posting while it's fresh. You can:
- Share on any or all social media platforms
- Invite candidates via email
- Navigate directly to your job's applicant pipeline
This streamlined flow ensures your new posting gets immediate social media visibility.
Tracking Social Media Performance
While social media shares don't have dedicated analytics within SmoothHiring, you can gauge their effectiveness through:
- Job Visit Stats — Track overall traffic to your job posting. Spikes after social sharing indicate successful reach
- Application Source — Look for increases in direct applications following social media posts
- Candidate Pipeline Volume — Compare application rates before and after social sharing campaigns
- Social Platform Analytics — Use LinkedIn, X, and Facebook's native analytics to track engagement metrics (impressions, clicks, shares) on your job posts
Internal Jobs and Social Sharing
For Internal jobs (created for team assessments rather than external hiring), the social sharing feature changes slightly:
- The action is labeled Share instead of "Share this job"
- The sharing content is adapted for internal distribution
- You can also use Send an assessment to distribute assessments to team members
- Invite people replaces "Invite applicants" for internal jobs
Tips for Ongoing Social Recruiting
- Build a consistent presence — Share job openings regularly, not just when you're desperate to fill a position
- Showcase culture — Mix job postings with employee spotlights, team events, and company achievements
- Create shareable content — Make it easy for your network to spread the word
- Respond quickly — Social media candidates expect faster response times than traditional applicants
- Track what works — Pay attention to which platforms and posting styles generate the most applications
- Encourage employee advocacy — Your employees' networks are your most valuable recruiting asset
