# File a grievance

An employee grievance is the formal record of a workplace concern. Open **Employee Grievance** under Lifecycle & Compliance. The type of concern comes from **Grievance Type**, on the same menu.

1. Open **Grievance Type**. Click **New Grievance Type**. Under Details, enter Type. Type is required. Description is optional. Click **Create Grievance Type**.
2. Open **Employee Grievance**. Click **New Employee Grievance**.
3. Enter Subject, Raised By, Grievance Type, Date, and Description. Those are required. Status starts as Open. You can set it to Open, Investigated, Resolved, Invalid, or Cancelled.
4. Cause of Grievance and Resolution can wait until you investigate.
5. Click **Create Employee Grievance**.

## What you should see

The list shows Subject, Employee, and Status. Search reads “Search grievance types...” on Grievance Types. An empty grievance list says “Log and resolve workplace concerns formally.” After you save, the title is the Subject, and the button changes to **Save**.

## If something looks wrong

**Create Employee Grievance** names Subject, Raised By, Grievance Type, Date, or Description when one is empty.

Grievance Type has no choices until **Grievance Type** has a row. Create the type, then return to the grievance and choose it.

Raised By has no people until employees exist. Create the employee, then choose Raised By.
