# Request travel

A travel request is the record of a trip before it is booked. Open **Travel Request** under Travel & Benefits. It does not create an expense claim, an employee advance, or a salary slip.

1. Click **New Travel Request**.
2. Under Details, set Travel Type to Domestic or International. Choose Purpose of Travel. Both are required. Travel Funding is Require Full Funding, Fully Sponsored, or Partially Sponsored, Require Partial Funding.
3. Under Employee Details, choose Employee. Employee is required. Contact Number, Contact Email, and Passport Number are optional. Employee Name and Date of Birth fill in and stay read-only.
4. Under Travel Itinerary, click **Add Row** for each leg. Travel From, Travel To, Mode of Travel, Departure Date, and Arrival Date sit on that row. Mode of Travel is Flight, Train, Taxi, or Rented Car. Turn on Travel Advance Required and enter Advance Amount only when that leg needs an advance amount on the request. Turn on Lodging Required when the leg needs lodging.
5. Under Costing Details, click **Add Row** when you have expense amounts. Click **Create Travel Request**.

After the request is saved, click **Submit**.

## What you should see

The list uses the employee name. An empty list says “Submit and approve employee travel before booking.” A new request is titled New Travel Request. After you save, the button changes to **Save**, and **Submit** appears. **Submit** says “Submitted” and shows **Submitting…** while it runs.

## If something looks wrong

**Create Travel Request** names Travel Type, Purpose of Travel, or Employee when one is empty.

Purpose of Travel only lists purposes already saved. If the list is empty, the request cannot be saved until a purpose exists.

**Submit** is only on a saved request. Create it first. “Submit failed” means it stayed unsubmitted. Open it and click **Submit** again.

Travel Advance Required on a row is an amount on this request. It does not create an Employee Advance. Attendance and clocking do not submit the request.
