# People

People is where you keep who works here, which team they sit on, and which job title they hold. In HR, those records are under Employee Lifecycle: **Employee**, **Department**, and **Designation**.

1. Click **Designation**. The list is titled Designations. Click **New Designation**, enter Name (the title), and click **Create Designation**. Add a title before you assign it to someone. Code, Description, and Default Appraisal Template are optional.
2. Click **Department**. The list is titled Departments. Click **New Department**, enter Name, and click **Create Department**. Code and Description are optional. Choose Department Head after that person has an employee record.
3. Click **Employee**. The list is titled Employees. Click **New Employee**. On **Overview**, fill First Name, Last Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Status, and Date of Joining, then click **Create Employee**.
4. On that same employee, under Company Details, choose Department and Designation. Designation is the title from step 1. Reports To is another employee. The Employees list shows that title in the Job Title column.
5. Open the employee again when you are ready for joining dates, pay, personal details, onboarding, or the records linked on **Connections**.

Department and Designation stay on their lists. You edit them there. The employee form only picks from names you have already saved.

## What you should see

**Employee** opens Employees, with columns Employee, Email, Department, Job Title, Type, and Status.

**Department** opens Departments, with columns Name, Code, Head, Description, and Status. New and edited departments stay on that page in a dialog.

**Designation** opens Designations, with columns Name, Code, Description, and Status. New and edited titles stay on that page in a dialog.

A new department or designation shows Status as Active. A new employee shows Status as Active unless you choose Inactive, On Leave, or Left.

## If something looks wrong

Department or Designation on a new employee has no choices until those lists have rows. Add the department or designation, then return to the employee and choose it under Company Details.

Department Head is an employee. If the person is missing from that list, create the employee first, then edit the department.

A required field left blank blocks **Create Employee**, **Create Department**, or **Create Designation** and names the field. Name is required for a department and for a designation. An employee also needs First Name, Last Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Status, and Date of Joining.

If a list looks empty, use its search box. Employees search reads “Search by name, email, or ID.” Departments search reads “Search departments...” Designations search reads “Search job titles...” Clear the search to see the full list again.
