A salary structure is the package you use when you generate a salary slip. Build the pieces first on **Salary Component**, then bundle them here.

## Salary Component

Open **Payroll**, then **Salary Component**.

1. Click **New Salary Component**.
2. Enter **Component Name**.
3. Set **Type** to **Earning** or **Deduction**.
4. Set **Calculation** to **Fixed**, **Formula**, or **Percentage**.
5. Leave **Active** on. Turn on **Tax Applicable** when this amount is taxed.
6. If the amount is calculated, fill in **Formula**.
7. Click **Create Salary Component**.

The list is titled **Salary Components**. You can search with **Search components...**. Columns are **Name**, **Type**, **Calculation**, and **Active**. An empty list says to configure earnings and deductions used in payroll.

## Salary Structure

Open **Payroll**, then **Salary Structure**.

1. Click **New Salary Structure**.
2. Enter **Structure Name**.
3. Set **Currency**. It starts as USD.
4. Set **Frequency** to **Monthly**, **Biweekly**, or **Weekly**.
5. Turn on **Default** if this is the package you usually use. Leave **Active** on. Generate refuses an inactive structure.
6. Under **Earnings & Deductions**, the table is labeled **Structure Components**. Click **Add Row**.
7. Choose a **Component**, enter **Amount**, and set **Order** if you care about the sequence. **Formula** is optional on the row.
8. Click **Create Salary Structure**.

Add a row for each earning and each deduction. An empty table says **No rows yet**. Generate will not run until this table has at least one component.

## What you should see

- The structure list is titled **Salary Structures**. Search with **Search structures...**. Columns are **Name**, **Frequency**, **Currency**, and **Active**.
- A new structure is titled **New Salary Structure**. After you save, the title is **Salary Structure** plus its number, and the button changes from **Create Salary Structure** to **Save**.
- Until you save, the form says: Save first to assign people, attach files, add tags, share, and comment.

## What can go wrong

- **Structure name is required.** Enter **Structure Name** and create again.
- **Component** and **Amount** are required on each row. The message names the fields that are still empty.
- Generate later says **Salary structure is inactive** or **Salary structure has no components**. Turn **Active** on and add rows, then save.
- A component is missing from the list. Create it under **Salary Component** first, then return and choose it.
