# Generate one salary slip

A salary slip is created only when you run Generate. Attendance and clocking do not create pay. Publishing a schedule does not create a slip.

1. Open **Generate Salary Slip** under Payroll. The page says “Create a draft payslip from a salary structure and attendance for the period.”
2. Choose Employee and Salary Structure. Both are required.
3. Enter Start and End. Both are required. Posting Date is optional and defaults to the End date.
4. Click **Generate**.

## What you should see

While it runs, the button says **Generating…**. A note says “Salary slip generated.” The page then opens Salary Slip plus its number, with status Draft. Under that, you can read Net pay and Payment days out of the working days in the period.

The slip uses attendance already saved for that employee and those dates. If nothing counts as time worked, Payment days is 0 and the amounts are 0. Generate still creates the draft.

## If something looks wrong

**Generate** stays unavailable until Employee, Salary Structure, Start, and End are filled. The page says “Select an employee, salary structure, and start/end dates to generate.”

“No employees found. Create an employee first.” means the employee list is empty.

“No salary structures yet. Create one under Payroll → Salary Structure, then return here.” means the structure list is empty.

A failed run says “Generate failed.” Common messages are “Salary structure is inactive,” “Salary structure has no components,” and “A salary slip already exists for this employee and period.” Fix the structure, or cancel the older slip, or choose dates that do not overlap. A cancelled slip does not block a new one.
