# App layout

App layout is how SmoothHiring looks for everyone in this company, in every app. Open **Settings**, then **App layout**. The page says “Choose how SmoothHiring looks for everyone in this company, in every app. Light and dark mode stay a personal choice.”

1. Choose **Classic** or **Modern**. Classic is “The familiar layout: a full-width top bar with company and help, and the menu below it on the left.” Modern is “A quieter, denser layout: company, search, and the menu in one sidebar, with page location in a compact header.”
2. Click **Save layout**.

Click **Cancel** to put the choice back before you save.

## What you should see

The layout already in use shows In use. After a save, the note is “Modern layout is on for everyone” or “Classic layout is on for everyone.” **Save layout** says **Saving…** while it runs. **Save layout** and **Cancel** stay unavailable until you pick the other layout.

## If something looks wrong

“Only the account owner can change the app layout.” The choice is visible, and **Save layout** is not. Ask an owner to change it.

“We couldn't load the app layout. SmoothHiring stays on Classic until it loads.” Click **Try again**.

“Could not save the app layout.” The previous layout stays in use. Click **Save layout** again.
