# Availability

![Availability](/files/help/employee-availability.mp4 "Mark a day Preferred, Available, or Can't work.")

Mark the days you can work. Marking a day does not assign a shift, and it does not check you in. Days save on their own.

1. Open **Availability** in the employee portal. On home, the schedule card also opens **Availability**.
2. Select one or more days that are still open. Past days are disabled.
3. Choose **Preferred**, **Available**, or **Can't work**.
4. Optional: set Shift you prefer before you mark a day as preferred. Any shift is the default.
5. Choose **Submit** when the scheduler should treat the month as submitted.

**Copy last month** repeats the previous month onto this one.

A scheduler reviews the same month from **Availability** under Shift & Attendance. Choose **View** to see one person's days. On a submitted row, choose **Reopened**, then **Reopen**, when that person needs to change the month.

## What you should see

The month chip can say Not started, In progress, Submitted, or Reopened.

Choosing a kind saves that day. You do not need a separate save for each day. A confirmation says Availability submitted after **Submit**, and Copied last month after **Copy last month**.

A locked month says: This month is locked. Ask a scheduler to reopen it if you need to make a change.

## If something looks wrong

Past days cannot be selected. A past month says This month has already passed.

**Copy last month** and **Submit** stay unavailable while the month is locked or has already passed.

On a day you already marked, the dialog can offer **Clear this day** or **Clear these days**.
